Bid Manager

Westchester Education Services is looking for a Bid Manager. The Bid Manager is responsible for creating and overseeing project budgets and bids to ensure that they meet cost and revenue goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with key members of the project team to obtain the cost information required to compile the budget.
  • Oversee the team during the budgeting process and making sure deadlines are met and that budgets meet revenue targets.
  • Create project budgets and project bids.
  • Respond to project team and upper management queries before, during, and after the bid has been submitted.
  • Organize and update financial records and become familiar with company pricing strategies.

This is an entry-level position within Westchester, with room for growth. The ideal candidate in this role will be a strong problem solver who is eager to learn.

  • Problem-solving skills.
  • An interest in the educational publishing sector coupled with a willingness to keep up to date with industry trends and pricing.
  • Experience in education, either in the classroom or at an educational publisher or ed tech is a strong plus.

Salary range for Bid Manager is $50-60K.

Resource Manager

Westchester Education Services is looking for a Resource Manager to manage and grow our freelance resource team. The Resource Manager will work to find and onboard diverse new talent and work with department leads to ensure adequate resources for ongoing and upcoming projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify and manage recruiting opportunities that will maintain and grow diversity for Westchester Education Services’ freelance team;
  • Manage the onboarding process for potential freelance and contract team members, including working with department leads to develop and administer skills-based screening tests (in conjunction with department leads) and maintain resource records in our freelance vendor system;
  • Work with leads to develop staffing solutions for projects, including adjusting the plan as needed and incorporating feedback on freelance resources;
  • Manage freelance contracts/statements of work and the invoicing process for all engaged resources;
  • Codify freelance recruitment and retention policies, while identifying and implementing areas for improvement in these arenas.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Have 3–5 years of experience in publishing and/or education preferred, with previous experience in educational publishing or ed tech strongly preferred;
  • Have demonstrated experience amplifying the voices of people from populations historically underrepresented in the industry;
  • Demonstrate experience identifying and recruiting freelance resources from traditional and non-traditional talent pools;
  • Have a demonstrable working knowledge of best practices in freelance resource management;
  • Be well-organized, yet flexible, and tech-savvy;
  • Be adept at developing and implementing processes tailored to our organization;
  • Foster relationships with internal departments, as well as with external partners, including universities and other talent streams.

Salary range for Resource Manager is $65-$75K annually, commensurate with experience

Freelance Opportunities

Freelance Writers and Editors

Westchester Education Services is looking for writers and editors for our editorial team. Writers and editors should have experience in the classroom, as well as demonstrated experience creating content for the school market. We are especially interested in candidates with a background in child psychology or who have experience developing social-emotional learning materials. Please reference these criteria if they are applicable, along with your relevant skills in your Worksuite application. Freelance Passage Researcher

Westchester Education Services seeks passage researchers to assist with development of assessments and other educational products. Conducting successful passage searches demands broad knowledge in a subject area such as literature, social studies, or science; facility with library searches as well as search platforms such as the Copyright Clearance Center’s Student Assessment License RightFind tool, Google Advanced Book Search and Google Preview, and Project Gutenberg; and a passion for and persistence in finding passages that are engaging, rich with item-writing potential, and aligned with various requirements and restrictions.

Freelance Career and Technical Education Content Creators and Subject Matter Experts

Westchester Education Services is building a network of content creators and subject matter experts to develop middle school, high school, and postsecondary career and technical education (CTE) materials. Our focus is on subjects related to the following career areas: Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; Business Management and Administration/Finance/Marketing; Health Sciences; Hospitality and Tourism; and Information Technology.

Candidate requirements vary according to the role (content creator or subject matter expert). All should have these qualifications:

  • robust understanding of CTE subject matter associated with one or more of the targeted career areas;
  • ability to clearly explain concepts associated with one or more of the targeted career areas, with middle school, high school, and postsecondary audiences in mind;
  • capacity to reliably commit time and energy to the production of quality CTE educational products; and
  • attention to detail and the ability to conscientiously follow guidelines and meet deadlines.

Additionally, content creators should have experience developing educational materials for one or more of the targeted career areas, proficiency in grammar, and well-developed writing skills. Subject matter experts should have experience working in, conducting training for, or developing educational materials for one or more of the targeted career areas.
