Providing children with access to books in underserved communities

Book deserts are a growing problem in the United States. Book deserts are communities where access to suitable reading materials is extremely limited, especially for the youngest residents.
In this interview, Marley Dias – a young woman with an impressive track record of being the change she wants to see – shows the creative way the Soar with Reading Program provides children in underserved communities with free books that are age-appropriate and entertaining, to foster and maintain their literacy skills during the summer months.
According to an article published in The Atlantic, book deserts can have significant long-term impacts on children, making the Soar with Reading initiative an important step towards resolving this issue.
