Each month, one employee of Westchester Education Services gets to select a project they are interested in funding on the DonorsChoose platform. This month’s selection chosen by Business Manager, Melissa Linksy, has a special, full-circle quality about it. Read on to learn more:
Name/Location of School: William H. Loesche School in Philadelphia, PA
DonorsChoose.org project name: Clean and Safe Personal Storage Space
Teacher’s Name: Mrs. Davies and Mrs. Karlyn
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Project description:
Kindergarten is where students learn to work cooperatively, interact with others and share supplies. However, Covid-19 has greatly affected how classrooms around the world will operate. The sharing of supplies will be a thing of the past, and kindergarten classrooms need to adapt to this change.
Because my students do not have individual desks, they do not have a place to store their individual supplies that they are required to use throughout the school day. At-Your-Seat Storage Sacks would be a great benefit for my students to store their individual supplies, in order to prevent the spread of any illness in our classroom. Students will also be able to store their books, folders, and manipulatives they use throughout the instructional day.
Why did you select this project?
I purposely chose this school as it’s my alma mater.
If the teacher has contacted you since their project was funded, please share their comments:
It is so nice to see former students from this wonderful school reach out and help our current students! Once a Loesche Lion always a lion!!
Mrs. Davies
Dear Westchester Education Services,
Thank you so much to the many family, friends, strangers and former Loesche students for your support in funding my first project! The students will really benefit from the individual chair bins this coming school year since they will no longer be able to share materials. We are eager to get back in our classroom and we can’t wait to start using them. Donors like you make it possible for me to do my job effectively. Thank you for your contribution and making the world a better place!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Davies
Dear Westchester Education Services,
I cannot thank you enough for your acts of kindness and generosity in these trying times. While we are uncertain what school will look like and feel like in just a few short weeks, I am certain that my students will feel the love that you have shown them through your donations. Thank you for providing a way for them to store and organize their personal materials safely! I hope you all stay well! I appreciate and am grateful for each and every one of you!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Karlyn
